We wanted to make cards like this for Valentine’s day but didn’t have any loose puzzle pieces around, especially not enough for thirty-five children’s cards.
Luckily, a local scrap store did. I recently completed a course in play-work and was enlightened to the usefulness of scrap stores for finding cheap resources, especially for crafts and loose parts.
You can imagine my excitement when I found out there was a scrap store 2 minutes away (by car) from my setting! I have found parts for our water play such as test tubes and pipettes, lots of different fabrics for crafts and cork screws etc for loose parts play. So, this was the first place I looked to find puzzle pieces, something which they had a whole box full of! I took a few handfuls, which cost around £2.
So, we were able to make our planned Valentine’s Day cards after all. Here they are:
The children painted and stuck on the puzzle pieces and then wrote their name inside their card. Thank you to Orinoco for the resources!
