Magic beans

Children enjoy playing with dry foods, usually I use pasta, lentils, rice and cereal. This time I used some sharpie pens to draw on butter beans. As well as creating a good story prop (magic beans!), these beans make a good phonics and maths resource. Here are the ways I decorated the beans:

  • Numbers

  • Letters and sounds

  • Shapes

  • Colours

Although these are a great, cheap resource, they don’t last very long as they will break if handled roughly (as they will be amongst young children). At the moment I have stuck to using these for group time and adult led activities.
